In conjunction with our partner Equilibrium Associates, we have developed and piloted new technology and stress audit process to offer a full stress audit service at a low, fixed price.

This is a full organisational stress audit and includes:

• Use of our psychologist-designed stress audit questionnaire. The 97-item questionnaire is designed to gather data related to the culture of the organisation and on the 6 stressor categories highlighted in the HSE draft management standards together with data related to stress outcomes/manifestations within the organisation. The questionnaire also enables the gathering of free expression (qualitative data), which is highly valuable in building an overall picture of the stress risk across an organisation.

• An on-site, pre-audit meeting with a consultant to discuss the planning and administration of the audit and agree the customisation of the stress audit questionnaire to represent you organisation. In addition, the consultant will agree what demographic comparisons are meaningful for your organisation, so the audit can pick up 'hot spots' where risk is high. The consultant will also advise on issues of anonymity and confidentiality.

• Full data capture service. Once completed, you/your employees send the questionnaires to our Data Capture Centre. Here we capture the quantitative and qualitative data (hand-written employee comments)
and produce a data file that is sent to one of our psychologists for detailed analysis.

• Analysis and interpretation of the results by a psychologist. A survey expert will review, and analyse your survey and then pass the results to a psychologist who will interpret them for you. This includes both the quantitative and qualitative data.

• A summary organisational stress audit report. The psychologist will write a summary report focusing on stress risk assessment and management. This report will help you meet your obligations in terms of risk assessment (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999)

• Full comparative analysis. Our process enables us to make all the meaningful demographic comparisons that are necessary. We do not simply provide feedback on the organisation as a whole, we also provide feedback on the important internal demographic comparisons.

The summary stress audit report

In writing the report the findings are placed clearly in the context of risk assessment. Your report will include:

• A summary of the results, both quantitative and qualitative.

• The identification of high-risk groups and how they are being affected (who might be harmed and how)

• What the main stressors are in your organisation and particularly within the high-risk groups (identification of hazards)

• Conclusions and recommendations for action in respect of minimising stress risk (recommended control measures)

• The report will use the HSE draft management standards on stress as a benchmark and provide feedback to the organisation relative to those standards.

Options

• Detailed report. This fixed price service provides a summary report as described earlier in this leaflet. A full, detailed report can be provided at additional cost. This detailed report will discuss the results and their interpretation in depth and is available at a cost of £3,000.

• Printing, Collation and Distribution. The prices quoted do not include the cost of printing, distribution and outgoing/incoming postage. All of this can be arranged through our Service Centre. This includes the supply of a reply paid envelope for your employees to return their completed questionnaire to us. Some clients like to print their own questionnaires and gather the completed ones at a central point before dispatching them to our Data Capture Centre. Whichever option you chose, you would need to budget for these incidental costs.

• Major customisation. The fixed price service includes minor customisation of the questionnaire to ensure it represents your organisation. If major customisation/changes are required to the
questionnaire, additional cost will be incurred, based on the time required to make the necessary changes.

• On-site visit to feedback results. The fixed price service includes a summary report as described. However, you may opt for the report's authoring Consultant to come to your workplace to present the results and conclusions to your senior management team. The Consultant would then be able to discuss the results, respond to questions about interpretation and be available to advise as appropriate with regard to recommended control measures. The Consultant can be available for up to half a day onsite and will need to prepare a presentation. This option is available at an additional cost of £900 +expenses.

• Full access to the results after the audit is completed. In order to have full access to all the results, you will need to have a licensed copy of the 'eXpress' software. The license costs £399. This option is highly recommend as you will be able to view the results whenever you want, create your own presentations and graphs, and conduct further analysis if you choose. In addition, you will then have access to a powerful piece of survey software that you can use to create a range of other surveys in the future.
